Medicaid Matters! MD -- Who We Are

MedicaidMatters!MD (MM!MD), is a statewide consumer-focused coalition which brings together a diverse set of over 70 local, regional and statewide organizations representing persons with disabilities, at risk children, vulnerable seniors and the low income community.

The Medicaid Matters to Me Stories Project challenges decision makers to look our most vulnerable citizens straight in the eye.

Since 2004, MM!MD has proven to be effective in advocating for the hundreds of thousands of Marylanders who rely on their Medicaid benefits:

Recent MM!MD Victories

There are too many children still uninsured in Maryand.  Led by MM!MD member Leigh Cobb, Advocates for Children and Youth Health Policy Director, MM!MD applied pressure on every lawmaker to pass the Kids First Express Lane Eligibility Act during Session 2010.  The strategy worked.

Members of the coalition voiced outrage over the lack of dental care for indigent children in Maryland that proved deadly for one child.  The results: increased funding and greater access to dental servcies.

In partnership with Health Care for All, MM!MD helped win an historic expansion of Medicaid benefits for Maryland families with children. Community education via workshops quickly followed the victory.

"Nothing about us, without us," echoed throughout the halls of power as the disabled community demanded to be heard. MM!MD members turned out in droves to back the Medicaid Living at Home Waiver, which supports Marylanders who choose to reside in the community instead of in nursing homes.

Out for Justice is Out for Jobs

Imagine how hard it is for nonviolent ex-offenders to get jobs in this economic environment.  But tough as it may be, Out for Justice is making sure illegal barriers, like refusals to grant occupational licenses solely because of an incarceration record, are booted out of the way.  Call 410.889.5072 if you'd like to lend a hand at their next workshop, September 15.
